Research Interest
Signaling Molecules and Drugs: Eicosanoids, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), targeting eicosanoid-biosynthesizing drugs, targeting eicosanoid-signaling drugs. Therapeutics Development for Diseases: Using small compounds/peptide/protein/gene/cells to develop novel approaches targeting Vascular Diseases (such as stroke and heart diseases), cancers and tissue regenerations. Drug targets: G Protein coupling receptors, P450 enzymes, eicosanoid-synthesizing enzymes, eicosanoid receptors Molecular Mechanisms: Eicosanoid Biosynthesis and Signaling in thrombosis, ischemia, cancers and stem cells. Biomedical field: Protein engineering, peptide synthesis, drug designs, membrane proteins, NMR structural biology. Approaches: Molecular cloning, protein/cell engineering, cell engineering, animal models, NMR spectroscopy, high throughput screening, virtual screening, computational chemistry. Assay Development: Automation robotic system for High throughput drug screening, virtual drug designs and screening, integration of experimental and virtual approaches in drug designs and screening.
Biography
Karen Mulkijanyan is the Head of the Department of Pharmacology at Tbilisi State Medical University Institute of Pharmacochemistry and Adviser on Technology Commercialization to aforesaid Institute’s Administration. He obtained his MS in Biochemistry in 1981 and PhD in Pharmacy in 2005. Dr. Mulkijanyan’s research interests include studying the pharmacology of anti-inflammatory and wound healing drugs and analysis and prediction of structure-activity relationship of natural, modified and synthesized compounds. He is the author and co-author of more than 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals, about 30 presentations at international scientific meetings, and 2 patents.

Pharmacology of antiinflammatory, wound healing and microcirculatory drugs. Pharmacokinetics. Toxicology. Analysis and prediction of structure-activity relationship of natural, modified and synthesized compounds.
Biography
Connie Medlen obtained a BSc (agric) in Microbiology in 1964, an MSc in 1982 and a Ph.D in Immunology in 1986 (at the age of 43). Up till now she has been employed by the University of Pretoria for 43 years after which she retired. Twenty nine MSc and nine PhD completed their studies under her supervision. After 4 years of retirement she returned to the University of Pretoria, Faculty of Medical Sciences as Research Mentor. She has published 128 research papers in ISI accredited international journals and presented at 44 International Conferences.
