Biography
Maria Elena de Lima is a professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Immunology at Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil. She was the Head of this Department and the President of the Ethical Committee on Research involving Humain Beings of UFMG. She obtained her PhD in Neurosciences in 1988 at Marseille University, in France. Dr. De Lima’s research interests include studying biochemistry and pharmacological activities of peptides purified from animal venoms, as spiders, Scorpions and snakes, having biotechnological potential, i.e. antimicrobial, insecticidal, antinociceptive and active on erectile function. She is author of more than 90 papers/book chapters in peer-reviewed journals/books, editor of two scientif books and has several patents. She was advisor of about 40 master and doctoral students.
