Biography

Prof. Karen Mulkijanyan currently is the Head of the Department of Preclinical Pharmacological Research at Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) I.Kutateladze Institute of Pharmacochemistry and full Professor at Caucasus International University the Faculty of Medicine. He is a Member of the Academic Council of the Institute of Pharmacochemistry and Dissertation Board at TSMU Faculty of Pharmacy. He is also a member of TSMU Animal Welfare and Use Monitoring Committee. He obtained his Master's degree in Biochemistry in 1981, and defended PhD thesis in Pharmacy in 2005. In 1986-1990 K. Mulkijanyan worked in the multidisciplinary research team on design and implementation of computer-aided devices for pharmacological and physiological experiments. Since 1996 he led courses in pharmacology, pharmacotherapy and pharmacokinetics at Tbilisi State University, Georgian Technical University and Caucasus International University. K. Mulkijanyan is also an expert in intellectual property protection and technology commercialization. K. Mulkijanyan was a manager/ key investigator of fundamental and applied research projects funded by CRDF Global/GRDF (2007-2014), STCU (2011), GNSF/SRSNF (2009-2016). As Organizing Committee Member, he arranged several international congresses and conferences on pharmacology and pharmacy. K. Mulkijanyan co-authored over 100 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, about 35 presentations at international scientific meetings and holds 2 patents in pharmacology. Prof. K. Mulkijanyan is Founder and President of the Georgian Association for Laboratory Animal Science “GALAS”, a member of the Association of Professional Chemists of Georgia and Association of University Technology Managers.

Pharmacology of anti-inflammatory, ulcer preventive, wound healing drugs; analysis of structure-activity relationship (SAR) and prediction of bioactivity of natural, modified and synthesized compounds; intellectual property protection; technology transfer and technology commercialization, use and care of laboratory animals
